The client was facing a big challenge due to slow down of growth in China. One of the key reasons was their organizational structure design based on a traditional processes, which was not agile enough to respond to market changes fast enough in times of VUCA.
The Company assigned this restructuring project to a competent BU leader, Jane. In the past years, she has delivered consistently high business results.
Although Jane has a good past performance record in business results, she did not have prior experience in Org Re-structuring. She is not confident in her capability to lead and drive such a brand new task. Thus her attitude to drive the changes is not so firm.
The Org Re-structuring is targeted for future long term success, however, in short term, it will cause some pain when people have to change and adapt to new things. And the motivation will become lower.
Jane’s used to be more micro-management style, delegation is not so often. This shows her not confident and “trust” team members’ capability. She shall change her management style to show she trust and care for their growth.
